Location

Doubletree Hotel Tucson at Reid Park
445 S. Alvernon Way
Tucson, AZ

This year the SAHRA Annual Meeting will focus on the topic of climate change and the impact that it will have on vegetation, land cover, and particularly the management of water resources. It will also be a celebration of the many research and outreach accomplishments SAHRA has contributed to hydrology as we look back to the Center’s beginning and forward to its future.

To kick off the meeting, we will hear from past directors of SAHRA, Soroosh Sorooshian, "Predicting Hydrologic Extremes Under Climate Variability" and W. James Shuttleworth, "New Perspectives on Evapotranspiration".

After this, Dennis Lettenmaier and Julio Betancourt, two authors of the seminal article “Stationarity is Dead: Whither Water Management?” (Science 2008), will give plenary presentations to set the stage for discussions on the many aspects of this problem. We welcome Biosphere 2, the recently created Institute of the Environment (IE), and the Water Sustainability Program (WSP) as partners of this meeting.

In a format quite different from previous annual meetings, sessions will be organized/co-organized by SAHRA and these partner institutions. Collaborations between SAHRA, Biosphere 2, WSP and IE will be highlighted in the meeting. Other featured interactions include the partnership with federal and NGO entities such as ICIWaRM (the International Center for Integrated Water Resources Management), which is in the final stages of being approved as a level-two UNESCO center. Concurrent sessions will feature topics of interest to hydrologists and water-related professionals who are looking to the future. A list of planned session topics is included in the Sessions section of this Web site.

We look forward to an exciting and informative meeting, and hope you will join us as we look back at our past and, even more important, plan for our future.

Sincerely,

Juan B. Valdes
